Mar. 13th, 2007 09:23 amWent to my first Roller Derby practice last night. I'm a pretty crap skater, but balance will come in time. We do lots of drills to get confidence and basic skate skills, as well as a lot of warm-ups and stretching and stuff to improve core strength and flexibility. With more strength comes better ability to balance, and more flexibility leads to less injuries when falling I figure.
There's muscles here hurting that I haven't felt in a long time, if ever. But I also woke up this morning in a much better mood than I have previously. I'm still bummed at having to go to work here, but at least I felt like I slept okay, and like the coming changes will be good for my body.
This weekend was all full of highs and lows. Friday was partying at New City with a lot of people from work and some fellow Roller Girls. Fun times all round and good music that night too.
Saturday was kinda sucky. Couldn't get an appointment at the chiropractor, so spent the day cleaning up the dogs' yard instead. Nothing like melting snow to make that job suck. Ewwww to poop soup. On the bright side, all poop seems to be cleared as is the ice off the walkway - so yay to not killing self on ice!
Saturday night was an IMAX screening of 300. Which RAWKED!!! 300 is definitely gonna be on my short-list for best movie of the year. Sure, the plot is kinda thin, the dialogue is barely there, but the visuals are breathtaking. And that first charge brought back all those feelings and that rush from the first time I stood in the shield wall myself. And those abs... miles and miles of perfect abs, pecs and shoulders, all glistening and bare. I've read people talking online about this not being a date movie - yeah, whatever, this is total pr0n for girls.
Anyway, the low point Saturday was finding out that some little shits sitting next to me (or they were but left before the show started) stole my purse. They only took cash and my ID, I got everything else back (that they ditched in various places). So now I have to get a new ID, which is a monumental pain in the ass. Also had to cancel all my credit cards, so am now running around with no driver's license and no ability to charge anything.
Tried to get a replacement license last night, had to leave work early to do so. But I arrived at the registry office *just* as they locked their doors. The registry office I might add is actually CAA. The one employee I ran into refused to let me in, refused to even let me look at a phone book to find another registry office and was on the whole completely unhelpful. I think I will go back on the Weekend and complain. It's not that I really expected to get in, though that would have been nice, but would lending me a phone book have killed her? She claimed she couldn't get back in the locked building, but that claim would have held a lot more water if I hadn't already seen her outside, and watched her go back in, walk through and come out another door while I was standing there in the cold.
The only times I need my membership is when I need to do auto registry stuff (which I could go to another private registry office for), when I need to get a tow (and the last time I called, I was told the local tow guy was in Disney Land and my passengers ended up wasting 2 hours pushing me out of the ditch in the middle of nowhere) and when I need maps. They're also becoming less and less useful with the maps thing. Once upon a time you'd say where you were coming from and where you were going and they'd make you a map. Now you have to plot your route yourself, so why not just do the whole thing yourself? Makes me wonder why I'm paying almost $100 a year for service I almost never use and which isn't good service even when I do need it. Might just not renew this year and this girl in the parking lot was the straw that broke me, so I figure I should let their management know that.
