Who was your first prom date?
I don't think I went to the prom ever. I went to the "Hallowe'en dance" the two times it was held while I was in high school (yes, 5 years of high school and only 2 Hallowe'en dances, my school sucked). That's about it. Didn't go to semi-formal, formal or grad.
Who was your first roommate?
Ryan, the guy I went to Australia with. Nice enough guy, but I'm sure we're both much happier apart than we were together. As a roommate, honestly, I can't think of how he could have driven me any more insane.
What alcoholic beverage did you drink when you got drunk the first time?
Screwdrivers I think. I believe I was at Mike's CD release party and Newf (Steve) was buying. Wonder what happened to Steve...
What was your first job?
Babysitting probably doesn't count... I worked for Suzy Shier for three weeks until they figured out the shift they had hired me to work was the one I specifically said I couldn't work in the interview. Or rather that was the excuse they gave. Might have had something to do with me breaking the dress-code that no one had bothered to inform me about (by wearing denim, a vest, not jeans, which I purchased in their store) on the day that the regional manager dropped in. Did a few other odd stints of holiday retail and worked in my Dad's office. First job I held for any length of time was the 3 years at Heroes Cards and Comics (Mike from the CD release party mentioned above was my boss). First real, salaried grown-up job was accounting student with Collins Barrow, something I really wish to forget as quickly as possible.
What was your first car?
First car I drove was the black 1984 Oldsmobile. Went through three generations of my family. I loved that car. And it was before my sister learned to drive, so it was mine, ALL MINE! Well, except that I didn't pay for it, or for the insurance, or for the gas. Yes, it was one hell of a sweet deal. After that, the first car I *owned* would be the one I gained by marrying Jason, the Cavalier, also black. And the first car I actually shopped for and purchased would be our nice, new Freestar minivan. Love that car too.
When did you go to your first funeral?
Um, never. Unless you want to count the Thanksgiving we buried my childhood dog. I only know two people who have died. One was a great grandmother, and my parents deemed me too young to attend the funeral. The other was some kid at high school who killed herself while I was overseas. Wouldn't have attended that funeral either, even if I had been in town, despite many of my friends going. It's not that she was my rival, she wasn't important enough for that, but I wouldn't say I liked her. And no, I don't believe in that whole "it isn't right to speak ill of the dead" crap. I didn't like her alive, death ain't gonna improve the relationship.
How old were you when you first moved away from your hometown?
21. Went to Australia for 5 months on exchange. Came back though, so I don't suppose that really counts. I think I was 26 when I moved out here. This is the moment when I'd normally lean over to my husband and ask "how old are we?" and work it out from there. But he's not home, so you have my best guess. I think I was 26, but maybe 25 since we moved in May, before my birthday.
Who was your first grade teacher?
I remember her face, and I remember I really liked her. But I don't think I'd recognize her if I ran into her on the street, and I can't remember her name for the life of me. Never been good with names unfortunately.
Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?
I know I went to England when I was 2, so I must have been on a plane. Can't obviously remember it though. When I was 7 we went to either the Dominican Republic or to Mexico (I can't recall which was first. One was when I was 7, the other when I was 8) Got to go up into the cockpit to visit the pilot and see all the dials and gauges. That was phenomenally cool, and something no kid of the post-911 world will ever get to do. Also remember the pressure in my ears during landing being excruciatingly painful. Still not comfy as an adult, but never as painful as it was the first time.
When you snuck out of your house for the first time, who was it with?
Never did actually. If I didn't want to come home, I just generally didn't. Once I was home, I was likely to stay there.
Who was your first Best Friend and are you still friends?
Karen Beaumont and Emily Holbert. Still talk to both of them, but I don't know if either of them really think of me as "best friend" either now or then. Anyway, living all the way out here it's hard to even keep in touch with people now.
Where was your first sleepover?
No clue. Probably at Karen's though. Or with the kids of one of my parents' friends. Though I suppose that's more of a babysitting-convenience thing than a child-initiated sleep-over event.
Who is the first person you call when you have a problem?
My mum.
Whose wedding were you in the first time you were a bridesmaid or groomsmen?
Still not done this either. Karen asked me but I chickened out. Her wedding was going to be right around University finals and I just figured I'd be a crap bridesmaid.
What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Wish I was still asleep.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
Karen and I saw Brian Adams when we were 12 or so. Also appearing were Extreme ("More than Words" ring a bell to anyone?), Steve Miller Band (we hid under the bleachers with the vendors buying junk food and t-shirts during their set) and Sass Jordan (who I believe now plays the part of Paula Abdul on Canadian Idol).
First tattoo or piercing?
Ears when I was 7. The summer we moved to London and right before I started school. Tried to walk out of the piercing place after one ear. Had to be held to the chair. Fortunately, no matter how long I leave my earrings out, the holes never seem to close, so I won't ever have to go through that again.
First celebrity crush?
No clue.
Age of first real kiss with tongue?
Probably 13 or 14 at summer camp.
First crush?
I think I had a crush on a boy in first grade. Yup, I discovered boys pretty early.
First REAL love?
Tricky. I've certainly *thought* I was in love enough times, but upon looking back, I get the impression I was more in lust/overcome by hormones than actually in love. Honestly, I'm still not really sure what being in love is or if I've ever really found it. If it's just really liking a person and wanting to spend the rest of your days with them, convinced that they will never be boring, or hurtful, and being willing to look past the annoyances, then I guess Jason is the first.
