Eve the memesheep says:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions and leave the answers as comments on my blog.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

My answers to the questions from much_ado:

1. everyone, when they get married, has qualms about marrying the person they've selected for their mate. what were your biggest concerns about jason when you married him, and have they eased or worsened since then?

Jay isn't big on talking. If something is bothering him, he doesn't put it into words, if something is bothering me and I take it to him, he doesn't respond. He hasn't improved, I think I've just lowered my expectations of getting a response and learned to deal with my problems myself. Not that I don't voice them to him, just that I don't need him to be a part of the solution any more. If he ever feels like speaking up, great, I'll be glad to listen, but until then, he's going to have to deal with me making all the decisions myself. After all, his abstaining form the decision-making process doesn't mean the decisions don't have to be made.

2. are your lovely puppies substitutes for children, or do you see yourself having both some day?

No, dogs are dogs, kids are kids. I'm not really sure yet. I know not now for sure. Maybe in a few years when the CA training is done. Or maybe I'll be wanting some *me* time after all this and I'll still be too selfish for kids. Who knows. Neither Jason nor I are really decided either way.

3. are you both committed to staying out west permanently, or was it a "move to the job" situation that leaves room for coming back to ontario at some point?

Move for the job. If Bioware goes out of business, we're outta here. Not sure where we would end up next though. Once he's worked in games, I doubt he'll want to work in another industry. And there are only so many places in the world where there are companies of this caliber. If Bioware keeps going though, we'll probably stay. I don't mind Edmonton, as cities go it's pretty decent, but I'm not married to it, and if Jason runs out of work, it's onward and upward. We are committed to staying here at least until I'm finished my CA though, since changing offices during that process is difficult, and changing provinces even more-so.

4. are you what you wanted to be when you grew up?

That would be soooo much easier to answer if there was any one thing I wanted to be when I grew up. I went through the usual phases, actress, vet, doctor, orthodontist, astronaut, journalist, university prof. I'm a gemini, we don't make decisions well. I didn't think of the accounting profession until about 3 years ago, but I would hardly consider myself grown up at that point, so I guess that's a yes. Though I honestly still don't think of myself as "grown up" at times.

5. what do you want for yourself in ten years' time?

Well, there's the usual material things that I should be able to acquire by then. I'd like to be in a nice house, with a nice backyard for the doggies. I would like said house to have room for all the studios I'd like to set up (sewing room, space for a floor loom, space for the lampwork and a pottery studio with my own kiln), but I'm reasonably sure I'll have to give up something there, if only for the fact that there aren't enough hours in the day to pursue all those hobbies. I'd like to have two cars and actually be able to afford to drive one of them to work. I'd like to be a partner, but I'd settle for manager on the way to becoming partner (I don't really know the time-line). I'd like for our house to be close enough to Jason's work that he can still come home at lunch and walk the beagles.

I suspect that if we decide to have kids we'll have one or both by then. that's not so much a "want" as it is a prediction though.

For wants and dreams, I'd like my dogs to still be alive and healthy. I'd like to be living somewhere with easy access to a beach and sunshine and warmth (Australia would be nice), but most importantly, I'd like Jason and I to still be together and happy and enjoying each other's company. In the end, that's all that really matters.

I'll be gentle. I'm not really good at asking the questions that really make you think, more like ditzy get to know you things.

1. Did you always want to be a librarian and what made you choose that career path?

2. Now that you live in the big city, is it where you wanted to be? Are you a city mouse or a country mouse at heart?

3. What is your favourite thing about being a twin, your least favourite?

4. What is your favourite thing about the SCA?

5. What is the one thing you would change about the SCA if you had the power (anything at all, you are omnipotent!)?

For all questions, assume "and why" at the end if you feel like giving reasons.

Oops- I sent it to my LJ rather than yours

1. Has becoming an apprentice changed your view on the SCA?

2. How bad was the 'culture shock' after you moved?

3. Why did you choose to get beagles (as opposed to another breed)?

4. Have you found that the SCA differs a lot depending on location?

5. Out of all of the various hobbies you do (i.e. beadmaking, weaving, etc.), which is your
favourite?

Actually, I think you're supposed to put in in your LJ, after all, that's how I leave my answers as a comment in yours right? I'll just copy them over after I guess.

1. Has becoming an apprentice changed your view on the SCA?

Not really. I was an active apprentice for such a short time (by which I mean living in the same province as my laurel) that it didn't really sink in. It certainly didn't change my approach to the game. I always lived for classes, I still try to teach at least a few every year, and I'm still taking on more hobbies like I have the spare time to do them. My documentation of said hobbies is still poor. About the only thing that has changed is that I took up fighting. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say apprenticeship didn't have an affect on that.

2. How bad was the 'culture shock' after you moved?

There wasn't any. The maritimes are a little different, as is Quebec, but other than that, the big city is the big city anywhere in Canada. It might have been more pronounced if I had moved to Middleofnowhere, Alberta. About the only difference I've noticed is the weather, the distances (people think nothing of driving 3 hours for a day-event, and up to 18 hours each way for a full weekend is conceivable - I still think they're nuts) and the lack of PST (not missing that one). The drinking age is 18 and I just learned yesterday that you can get your learner's permit at 14 - eeek - but that doesn't really affect me.

3. Why did you choose to get beagles (as opposed to another breed)?

They're cute, sporty, small enough to pick up (and stop them from doing something they shouldn't be) but large enough to "woof" not yip. Personality very like my Cocker Spaniel without the grooming. I also suspect that the fact that they are a working breed makes them less prone to stupid in-bred illnesses and defects. They're period, and approachable, so a good SCA pet. Mostly they are heart-meltingly cute.

4. Have you found that the SCA differs a lot depending on location?

Yes, very. Interestingly, the people who play seem the same (it attracts the same type of people, and I have often found I can draw direct parallels with people I've met elsewhere), but the way they play varies wildly. For example, lunch counters in Ealdormere are a given, here, only if a merchant sells food is there anything other than the feast in the evening. In Australia (and sometimes here) "feast" can be pot-luck, never seen that in Ealdormere. Ealdormere has a more familial view of the royalty (we tend to actually know them personally), the BOD is not the big bad evil in Ontario, here you'd think they were Satan incarnate from talking to some people. While they will drive 18 hours each way to attend an event in "kingdom core" that only lasts a weekend, none of them have ever gone to Pennsic. Many have flown to Estrella though, while at home, I think only Uncle J and family had ever gone. In Australia, some people had crossed the continent to "Rowany Festival", which was about the size of Murder Melee at it's height, but no one would consider flying to Pennsic. In Australia, events were feasts OR tourneys, not both. What we call "camp garb" they call "tourney garb", what we call "court garb" they call "feast garb". Most interesting/odd is people in this area seem to think I would make a good Princess - Bwahahahaha.

5. Out of all of the various hobbies you do (i.e. beadmaking, weaving, etc.), which is your favourite?

I don't think I have a favourite. It's like music, I go through phases. Right now, I am obsessed with the bead making. Previously I have been obsessed with sewing, embroidery, pottery, and weaving. I've experimented with a lot of others, but those are the core things that I keep coming back to.
