This week I've been getting some around the house projects done. Last week I mounted a cheap Wal-Mart full-length mirror to the back of the upstairs bathroom door. I've had it since maybe a week after we moved in, just sitting around the living room. I've lost count of how many times the dogs have knocked it over while playing. It's good to have it done.

Last night we stuck plastic to the windows, or some of them anyway. The coldest room in the house still doesn't have the plastic because I am whinging at my Landlord in hope of having the whole wonky window replaced outright. Also, as it is my glass studio, I need to be able to open the window for oxygen or give up glass for the winter. I've complained about this window before and had them ignore me. I have no doubt of their intention to ignore me again. Not a happy situation - sigh. Also no plastic on the patio door, as I imagine enthusiastic doggies with sharp claws will have it punctured and useless in less than a week.

Anyway, maybe some lunch and then back to cleaning.

How difficult was it to put the plastic on the windows? I would love to keep our heating bills down this winter....

First, you need to own a hair dryer. I didn't. luckily, that was also on sale at Canadian Tire this week.

The tape goes on SUPER easy. The plastic, a little less so. It is barely visible when it's done.

Things I learned:
1. Measure the window before you buy the product. My one window was too big for the "window" product and needed the "patio door" size. No, you cannot tape pieces together as far as I know, so make sure it is big enough.

2. Ignore the instructions that tell you to cut it to size. The more excess you have, the more room you have for messing up just in case you put it on with an angle. And the better a grip you'll have for pulling it nice and tight.

3. When you unfold it, measure it. Make sure it's not still got one fold in it and doubling. It won't go on right at all if it's still two layers thick (our mistake on the first window).

4. It will take some unsticking and resticking to get it all wrinkle-free. Just fiddle with it a bit and you should get it. Figure an hour a window to do it. Maybe more like two if you're clueless (like we were on the first one).

Other than that, easy peasy. Good luck with it!
