This morning I'm feeding Georgia. It's the first feed of the day so I'm super-full. I've just let down when she pulls off for some reason. In the half second before I manage to shove the nipple back into her mouth, milk sprays everywhere. In the calm after the chaos I notice that a bunch of tiny milk droplets have stuck to her eyelashes like small, spherical crystals. She looked like a little ice princess. One of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
Immediately after the feeding we had our bath, because mum wants us to smell nice, not be all sour-milk-scented and sticky.
Yesterday was pretty mediocre. Dropped Jason at work and had a visit with the chiropractor. That was good. Then on to Ikea where I treated myself to lunch, only it wasn't much of a treat. I'm not a huge fan of their chicken marsala as it turns out. We had to go to Ikea because Jason broke one of Rhonda's plates the other day, so I was going to replace it. On the bright side, it was still in stock and not expensive. After lunch I went to change Georgia and discovered we'd had a major leak in our sleeper. I also discovered that I'd neglected to pack a clean top of any sort. The diaper bag contained multiple sets of pants, hats and socks, but no shirts or onesies - drat. In the end I decided better clean than well-dressed and simply wrapped her top half up in the blanket that was over her in the car seat. And then because she still looked chilly I surrendered my jacket to be her new blanket. This left me wandering around in a 12 degree downpour wearing only jeans and a t-shirt. So even though I had other errands I wanted to do that day, Ikea was our last stop. I did pick up a few things there for me too. They've got a new diaper bag that I was keen to try out, a box that might be the right size for our shelves upstairs and some safety latches for our kitchen cupboards. I did not get a replacement orchid for the one that died while I was in hospital because they've upped the price on their orchids to $20. When they were only $14 I didn't mind rescuing orchids from their bad care, but for $20 I'm getting one from a professional.
I meant to phone people this weekend but just didn't get to it. Because I'd invited Rhonda and family over for dinner we had to clean the place and cook. By the time they showed up there was a lovely beef stew bubbling away on the stove, the entire kitchen was already cleaned up and Jason had tidied the living room and laid the table. After dinner Greg left almost immediately because he was exhausted from his weekend of Boy Scout camping with Brandon. I sent Rhonda home shortly thereafter because she also looked beat and promised I'd send the kids home in time for bed. Jason entertained the kids with Rock Band and watched Georgia while I cleaned the kitchen, so by the time the company left everything was all clean and nice. Going to bed having fed 10 people dinner and cleaned up after is an awesome feeling; very accomplished.
I should take the opportunity this week while the room is tidy to do the dusting and vacuuming, which, to my recollection, hasn't been done since Georgia was born. Time to write another to do list I think...
* vacuum
* dust
* laundry for Jason and I
* finish the Halloween decorations outside
* grocery shop and make healthy dinners for Wed, Thurs and Fri (Mon and Tues were leftover stew)
* finish Georgia's Halloween costume
* take a stab at a Halloween costume for myself
* finish my plantings (3 planters of mums and 2 bottle brushes in the back yard)
* clean off the hibiscus and bring it in
* carve Jack-o-lantern
In other news, Georgia is definitely starting to grab things. She can grab her mouse by the nose or tail and has grabbed the crinkly wings of this musical danglie bug thing in her crib. Still hasn't rolled over, but she seems to be trying. Also still not yet interested in any of the wooden toys I've bought for her or in the squeaky giraffe toy Jason's brother got us. Honestly, she's not even *that* keen on the mouse. But the danglie musical bug thing is PURE WIN! I'm sure she'll get interested in other things in time. Tonight we're going to pick up a swing for her, so let's see what she thinks of that.
