Mum visiting allowed me a little time to wrap up some projects this week.

First I made some cloth wipes because I realized after a week and a half of being home from the hospital and going through 2 full packages of disposable wipes that continuing to purchase and use those was stupid beyond words. 8" square flannelette in white, edged with a serger, works great. Also tossed together a few more receiving blankets. Still have more fabric that I could turn into blankets and a few more wipes that I haven't serged yet. Might get to that later, like over the weekend when Jason is home and can watch Georgia.

The giftie mobiles are all done.

Kitties, mice and ball all sewn up and ready to be attached to the supports:

I'd still like to make a mobile for Georgia, but that project is obviously on hold for now. Also realized this week that I've got a garb problem... I don't presently own anything that I can breast feed in. If I'm going to Odette's elevation I'm going to have to throw something together this week. Rats.

Thanks for the offer, but yeah, I don't think it would fit at all. And those gowns really do need to fit well to look right. I suspect it would be a hard thing to loan out even to someone who was close to your size as they really are a custom fit.

The shinrone is less finicky than most other Elizabethan dresses from what I can tell due to the lack of boning (I've yet to run into anyone else who's actually made up the full dress, so I'm only going on my own fitting experiences, sigh), but I do agree it wouldn't work for you- the bodice would probably be hanging somewhere around your thighs!

You could do up a mock-shinrone though if you wanted a fancy-ish dress for the event- the reason I love the dress so much is that it's practical enough to work in but still has a bit of late period wow-factor. You could leave out the funky pleating in the skirt, which is what most people tend to do; they also tend not to do the darts in the front either, which is silly since it creates support for the chest and holding in the stomach a bit, which is adjustable for changes in weight (hence the reason people believe it's a pregnancy dress; that and the ability to simply pull down the shift rather than digging through a bodice for the breasts). It wouldn't quite have the benefits of doing up a full one, but it would be a good nursing dress that could be worn afterwards as a normal dress since all the nursing adjustments would be made to the shift underneath.

I don't want to make anything fitted right now because my waist size is changing by the week. I'm hoping in a few months that it will be close to normal again. But right now I've still got a half-deflated basket ball on my tummy. And anyway, I'm more Norse than late period at the moment. I'm just feeling the viking thing or the Roman thing more than the Tudor thing lately.

So I'll be making a Norse dress with the sleeves that go right across to mid-chest and the "skirt" attached below that. I've been wanting to try that pattern for ages now, so this gives me an opportunity. And in a few weeks I'll be making some Persian garb, because that's all slit neck to navel too. I just don't want to go there until the basketball deflates a bit more.

I understand that completely- we're doing a Norse event the weekend after Coronation and I just can't get up the enthusiasm to make anything new for it (I'll be wearing a generic Norse tunic that's in my garb stash). For the past few years, early period just doesn't feel 'right' for me and I don't feel nearly as comfortable in my earlier stuff as I do in my shinrones.

Hmm, I've never heard of that pattern before- is there a picture online somewhere of it? It sounds interesting, and I don't think anything like it was used as examples of clothing in our event 'prep' meetings.

It's a popular pattern out in An Tir, but one that I've never tried. I'm not sure where the documentation comes from, but I trust my source (the woman who told me about the pattern). I'll send pics or you can just look at it at Coronation if I get it done by then.

That would be great- it sounds really interesting. :)

The word from Tang is that "the family" is doing early period (she said Conquest, but Norse sounds good, too -- and interesting; I'd love to see pics) anyway, since the woman of honour is feeling the early period stuff more herself. So you'll match. :)

I'm going to be working from this picture: http://www.uvm.edu/~hag/rhuddlan/images/105x-weingarten-d1.html since I'm hoping that it'll help me walk the tightrope between "enough fabric to cover the belly" and "not feel like I'm wearing a completely shapeless sack"

Make sure your fabric is nice and soft. When I tried on my apron dress towards the end of my pregnancy all we could do was laugh. It's made out of the same fabric I made my gambeson out of (so really thick and durable) and it went out over the belly and just kept going out on the same angle, so I was a giant cone. On the other hand, my Roman, which is a one-size-fits-all sack, but drapes beautifully looked great. I had people not realize I was pregnant because I could belt it and drape it so I still looked decent.
