The shinrone is less finicky than most other Elizabethan dresses from what I can tell due to the lack of boning (I've yet to run into anyone else who's actually made up the full dress, so I'm only going on my own fitting experiences, sigh), but I do agree it wouldn't work for you- the bodice would probably be hanging somewhere around your thighs!
You could do up a mock-shinrone though if you wanted a fancy-ish dress for the event- the reason I love the dress so much is that it's practical enough to work in but still has a bit of late period wow-factor. You could leave out the funky pleating in the skirt, which is what most people tend to do; they also tend not to do the darts in the front either, which is silly since it creates support for the chest and holding in the stomach a bit, which is adjustable for changes in weight (hence the reason people believe it's a pregnancy dress; that and the ability to simply pull down the shift rather than digging through a bodice for the breasts). It wouldn't quite have the benefits of doing up a full one, but it would be a good nursing dress that could be worn afterwards as a normal dress since all the nursing adjustments would be made to the shift underneath.
