No snakes yesterday or today. I'm hoping that was an odd event and that no more snakes will appear, but I'm not holding my breath. So far the only preventative measures we are taking is that we purchased another shelf for the garage so we can get more boxes snake-hidey-places off the ground and put away. Still have to assemble and load said shelf though. If I encounter more snakes I may re-investigate the repellent option.
The couches we purchased over a month ago that should have been delivered "in 14 days" are finally going to make an appearance tomorrow. That gives me a massive to-do list for today to prep for them.
Living room
* Remove old couch
* vacuum
* Tidy up surfaces and get rid of clutter
* hang pictures
(those last two are not strictly speaking necessary before tomorrow, but it would make it "finished")
Bedroom
* Straighten up all the junk on the floor (mostly left-overs from unpacking boxes)
* Vacuum
* Finish curtains (again, this is not necessary, but the room will look much nicer if I get to it)
Game room
* Fold and put away all the SCA clothes
* Vacuum and put away the camp bed and tent
* vacuum floor
* Install old couch in its new home
* Clean up and install the CD rack I got for Jason yesterday in Ikea's as-is section (I freaking love that part of the store)
* hang pictures
I'm thinking fold and put away clothes comes first (since that is some of the floor-clutter in the bedroom too) and after that Jason should be home for the old furniture relocation task. I'm most concerned about the family room and bedroom stuff as those are the rooms that stand to gain the most from the new stuff, and I want to enjoy them and have them feel finished already. The game room stuff is really secondary.
Stuff from the old to-do list that has been checked off since I last posted include:
- Finishing the guest room and living room curtains.
- Fixing the leak in the guest room shower head.
- Hanging the spice cabinet (never did refinish it, but I can pull it down and tackle it later)
I also finished assembling the dining room furniture, purchased a rug to go under the kitchen dining set that doesn't make me dizzy (I had a persian-style rug that was contrasting with the kitchen chair fabric in a most unpleasing manner), moved the dog cage from the dining room to the kitchen and put a rug under that too and hung a few pictures here and there.
Jason, being the wonderful husband that he is, decided to take out the last of the weeds in the back yard once and for all. It amounted to 2 full green garbage bags. This is astounding when you realize how small our yard really is. And that I'd already removed 2 or 3 bags myself. We've left all the wildflowers (which being in a lawn and not being grass some people might consider weeds but I really like them) intact. If they stop flowering they'll get mowed, but I'm unlikely to bother pulling them out. I'm hoping we can stay on top of the weed problem going forward. Maybe I'll take a break later and get some pictures of the wildflowers before they're finished.
Time for less chatting about work and more actually doing it.
