It's just non-stop excitement
Nov. 10th, 2009 12:05 pmMost exciting morning ever - not. I had to rush out the door this morning to pick up the milk that Jason neglected to get on the way home last night. Not showered or teeth brushed or anything, just threw on yesterday's clothes and ran to Wal-Mart. Uuugh, though I guess it's not like I give a shit what the other Wal-Mart patrons think of my appearance.
I then spent the rest of my morning looking up and attempting cradle cap remedies. I went with: 1. rub olive oil into scalp 2. brush flakes out with fine comb 3. shampoo with baby shampoo to remove excess oil. It seems to have worked and in either case, it's not like that routine would have been damaging at all. Some people recommended dandruff shampoo and that just seemed like trying to kill a fly with a cannon; does more harm than good. I was also not fond of baby oil suggestions as I question the use of fragrance on newborns. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and let y'all know if it worked. Like I said, thrills and chills! Oh how exciting my life has become.
Georgia has been working very hard on talking this week. She almost has "hello" down. Right now it's sounding a bit like Scooby talking - "arro", but this definitely seems to be the sound she wants to make first. No attempts at either Mama or Dada to date. We've mastered rotating (she's in a different position every time we go to get her from the crib) but still no progress on rolling over. Head control is hit or miss. Sometimes she feels like putting forth the effort to turn and look at things and other times she just lets it all go floppy. I'm hoping it starts getting consistent soon as I've started shopping for a bike trailer for her and I'd like to get my freedom back.
Cloth diapering is going well. Since returning from Canada (where I used disposable because I didn't want to mess with laundry while on vacation) we haven't even gone through a single package of disposables. I do use them occasionally while shopping (though I've phased that out in favour of bringing cloth along) or when I screw up the laundry schedule and run out of cloth. She'll probably be out of this size before we use up this package - yay! I have found that I have fewer leaks with cloth, but clothes fit a bit tighter since the stores figure all parents go for disposable, and the vast majority do. As a result, we retired almost all of our 0-3 month outfits this week, about a week before our 3rd month birthday. The 3-6 month stuff is a bit baggy, but in the 0-3 month stuff she kept rocking the off the shoulder look. I've also discovered that I went a bit nuts at all the sales I've been finding and we have too many clothes in this 3-6 month range. It turns out that buying stuff for her is at least as fun as buying stuff for me.
Speaking of buying stuff for me, my parents were here this weekend. Saturday they were at the Longhorns game while Jason and I took the dogs to the dogpark and enjoyed an afternoon nap. Sunday we ended up at the outlet mall because it was really to rainy to do anything other than shop. I picked up a few more cheap t-shirts for me and finally got the black pair of Sketchers I've had my eyes on since we moved here. Jason got some new jeans (all his old ones were shredded) and a couple of new pairs of shoes identical to the ones he has now (I think he hates nothing more than shoe shopping, so buying multiples puts it off for longer). Time for another closet-cull for me. There's got to me more I can retire in there.
My strollers got recalled, so I guess this means it's time to register them and get the little hinge-cover thingy. The other task for this week is to write thank you notes for all the baby gifts. I'm not good at thank you notes, but it's past time I buckled down and did them. Also time to poke around at the health care system and see when/where Jason and I can get H1N1 vaccines. We both got seasonal last week (or was it the week before for me?) so time to move on to the next one.
