Nothing to report
Jul. 17th, 2009 12:22 amNo pics of the site next door today. For some reason no one came to do any work with the piles of sand. *shrug* Not worth taking or posting a pic if there's nothing to see.
I *wanted* to spend my day out in the garage making another box. Instead I chose to be good and finally make the curtains for the dining room. We've been living on display to anyone who walks past on the street in that direction and you can see right through to our family room. We noticed that one night when we were out walking the dogs and had left the lights on. It was REALLY easy to see everything. Even so, I'd been putting it off for a while. Realizing that soon we will have workmen next door all the time however has made me get off my butt at last. Ironic because as soon as the house goes up we'll actually have more screening and privacy on that side, but we will be looking directly into the side of a house, which isn't the most attractive view. Not that the empty lot full of weeds and the construction trailer beyond it was great either. Anyway, there was also the realization that once the baby comes this crap better all be done because I really won't have time for it then.
The curtains are currently in the dryer because over the course of making them Anna napped on them at many regular intervals, or just threw herself down on her back in front of me as I was working on them. A quick run through the dryer should take off enough fur to make them look decent. Tomorrow morning I'll hang them before Jason leaves for work so I can keep my ladder-climbing to times when he is here to drive me to the hospital if I screw up and fall. Not that I think I will mind you, but it's good caution to make sure there's someone around any time you get up on a ladder. Not a precaution I always take, but I will tomorrow. It looks like there is enough fabric left over to make throw cushions for the living room - yay!
Of all the curtains I had to do when we moved in, I think I'm about half-way now.
-Hem pre-made curtains for living room (4)
-Make curtain for guest bedroom (1)
-Make curtain for baby's room (1)
-Make curtains for dining room (2)
- Make curtains for master bedroom (6)
I might also add make curtains for sewing room as there is some fabric at Ikea (the last one on the page, the two shades of blue) I have totally fallen in love with that I would find very inspirational if hung in my sewing room (and Jason doesn't really like it, so the only place I can put it would be a room he doesn't go in). I figure I will allow myself to buy some only if I am finished all the other curtains. That seems fair.
In order to ensure this gets done I think I will make a goal of finishing one master bedroom curtain every day for the next 6 days. Maybe it will suck less if I spread it out.
I'm pretty sick and tired of sewing curtains to be honest. It's boring work as it is all straight lines and simple hemming. And loooong lines of sewing. But at the same time, the end result is really fantastic. It's nice to have a room that looks finished and put together and well decorated. Curtains really do make a nice finishing touch even if you do have blinds. And it's something you get to look at and enjoy every day. It should also help with our electricity bills as we've now hit 30 days in a row over 100 degrees, so every little bit of insulation I can get in front of those windows should help. Ain't it just perfect that we're having a record breaking summer while I'm pregnant? *sigh*
Anyway, off to bed! I'll take pics of the (finally) finished dining room tomorrow.
