I'm up to something
One of my greatest pleasures is when I am able to bring a skill I've learned in the SCA to bear on something that needs doing in the real world. Kinda makes me feel like this hobby that has sucked so much of my time for almost half my life now is actually useful. A few weeks ago it was the skill-set I learned in the armour shop cutting and filing metal applied to installing a doggie door and extending the threshold when I installed the storm door. Yesterday it was using the wood chiseling skill-set obtained when trying to make myself some wax tablets applied to properly installing the receiving plate for a dead bolt (you don't want to see the shitty job the builder had done. The deadbolt wasn't even able to extend all the way when the door was closed because that's how shallow they'd made the hole. Nevermind putting the metal receiver in to reinforce the whole lot *eyeroll*).
Last night and this morning I'm applying embroidery to an entirely non-SCA project for an SCA friend. This particular project is making me purr with glee. Last night something went all wonky in my system, not sure what exactly but I was dizzy and faint, and still I was pressing on with this project because it's just that fun. It's been a while since I felt creative, and finding this outlet is good.
Also had someone over this week to learn the beadmaking, which was cool. I enjoy the company and the variety that having a guest brings. She also purchased my old camp bed frame thingy off me, which was good as I was able to turn the money around into another Craigslist purchase and pick up a baby gym and back-seat-mirror thingy for $20.
Today's plans are pretty light. Continue with the project, go buy more supplies for the project, maybe think about cooking a dinner out of real food, possibly tackle another deadbolt receiving plate (I still have two doors left to do). For now, back to sewing.
