Went to the baby store again today to buy a bunch more supplies. Also treated myself to lunch out, a few new shirts, another pair of maternity capris (it's too hot here to wear the pants any more) and a very decadent dessert from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company. Chocolate dipped frozen banana with nuts, I am your bitch. All of this would be very sad if I'd committed to the whole "living with less" thing, but since I was just discussing it, not taking up the challenge, I don't feel bad about it. Also, with only one exception, everything purchased was stuff I've wanted for some time.

Replaced the black converse t-shirt my sister pinched from me at Christmas (it was down to $5 - yay!)
Picked up a Roxy short-sleeved rash guard (I love my long-sleever, but it's too hot. And with these shirts being SPF 50 and intended to be in water and me wanting to spend all my time in Henley's pool it's a good investment. I've been waiting for these to come into the store for months now)
Maternity capris - I'd noticed that the one pair I had never actually made it back to the drawer. I'd wear them until they were so dirty they were stiff, they'd end up in the wash, and the second they were clean they'd be back on me. Obviously a second pair would help.
Pink cardigan to wear over all the sleeveless dresses I own when we go to the movies or restaurants or other places that really jack up the AC. Didn't plan on buying this, but at $7.50 *shrug*. All my other cardigans are either black or thick or both, so this is a nice spring/summer/fall piece (in Canada would have been summer only of course).

As for the lunch and dessert out, I don't think it counts as waste if you eat every last bite and really enjoy the experience. For lunch I sat out on a shaded porch and ate a quiche lorainne that was big enough for two (brought some home and will have it for either dinner or breakfast) and a caesar salad. Incidentally, if anyone visits this part of the country, La Madeleine is an excellent lunch place. It's a chain, and normally I shun those, but the food there is really freaking good. Ambiance isn't bad either. The dessert was noshed down, again outdoors and with complete abandon. I haven't had one of those since this time last year. I need to buy some bananas so I can make my own frozen banana snacks (minus the decadent dark chocolate and nuts so it's a healthy heat-beater).

Unfortunately I will have to waste a bit of gas this afternoon. The baby shop screwed up my order so I need to go back and straighten it out. On the bright side they sold me 2 dozen of the larger size of prefold for the cheaper price. On the downside, I don't need the larger size yet and probably won't for almost a year. My plan is to go back and just buy more of the infant size and not mention the mistake. I would hold off and try to team this return to Round Rock with some other errand, but they're offering 10% off only until monday, so I need to take advantage of that since diapers never go on sale.

Things I bought at the baby store:
2 packs of lillypadz (something to stop breast leaks between feedings)
1 piddle pad car seat protector
4 bummis super-brites covers in small (Em suggested these were the best ones)
2 bummis super-brites covers in newborn (because they were out of smalls and I wanted to lock in the discount. I'll exchange later)
3 dozen prefold diapers, 1 doz bleached, 2 doz unbleached so I can experiment with which I like best
2 packs of disposable liners
4 snappis
1 waterproof bag for putting dirty stuff in when we're out
1 diaper sprayer attachment for the toilet (only item not discounted, them's the breaks)

"Out with the old" refers to why I indulged myself today. I've been good-wife this week. I'm all caught up on the laundry, the kitchen is spotless and has been for days (not that I haven't used it, in fact I've cooked some really nice meals, I've just been cleaning up straight away) and I went through 6 boxes of paperwork and school notes my parents brought down from Canada. I've managed to cull it down to a little under one box, so go me! Felt weird throwing out all the old school notes this morning (into the recycler at Jason's office), but I really can't justify keeping this stuff just in case it ever becomes relevant again. Anything I really need to know I'm sure I can look up on the internet. This truly closes the door on student life, but I think I'm ready for that now. I also photographed some old stuff and sold it on craigslist (or on the SCA list) and gave away some non-sellable stuff (still can be used but not worth paying for in my opinion) on freecycle.

Combined with finishing the patio furniture, sealing the crack under the door and organizing the garage, this has been an unusually productive week for me. Tomorrow's an SCA event, nothing but classes all day so I'm looking forward to that (no idea what classes I'll try to get in yet though, need to look that over tonight so I have a plan).

In other news, we had a HUGE storm last night, complete with tornadoes rather close by. All my poor plants got completely battered by the rain, and yet the hibiscus tree came back in full form this morning with 4 blooms the size of my face and lots more buds ready to go. I was right, all it needed was some water and a bit of fertilizer and it's happy as can be. Nice to know I didn't kill it with the few days of neglect there.
