Change of plans
May. 24th, 2009 03:46 pmLots of clouds and a few rumbles of thunder, but the rain seemed to mostly stay away today. Didn't start on the storm door though because that would have meant rain for sure. Instead I used the opportunity of the dampened soil to dig into the dirt and plant my last two plants. Not sure I've put them in the best spot as they are supposed to be in direct sunlight and the spot I've chosen is shaded all afternoon, but I couldn't really think of any better location (front yard is all filled and I don't want to put anything against the back fence until I have a plan). They desperately needed to go into dirt though as they were starting to die off in their tiny nursery pots. Planting in this part of Texas is a definite challenge as the soil is clay. When it's dry, it's like shoveling into solid rock. When it's wet, it sticks to the shovel. There's really no winning. If we ever want larger beds I think I'll be paying someone to dig them.
Dug out a couple of holes and relocated the nice resulting sod plugs to some of the patchier parts of the yard (I really hope those take) and this is it for landscaping this year.
( My backyard 'landscaping' behind the cut )
Next year we might investigate covering and/or expanding our patio or maybe putting a few trees in the back. And of course coming up with some sort of overall plan for the whole backyard so we have a direction and aren't just randomly dropping stuff in and hoping for the best.
Tonight Warcraft and maybe hemming the curtain in the baby's room.
