Or at least Edmonton's weather fairies hate me. Every bleeding charity walk I've gone on this year has been rained out. Or rather, if it was anything in the world other than a charity walk it would be called due to the weather, but charity walkers press-on through adversity. This weekend it was the Edmonton Humane Society. The beagles, Jason and I showed up just on time. We squished the car into a spot that was probably too small for even a subcompact, much less the van I stuffed in there. In fact a subcompact started to park there and thought better of it just before I decided it was certainly big enough for my superior parking skills. The major advantage of this spot was that it was close enough to allow us to be both on time and not have to pay for the shuttle. The disadvantage was that we were so close to the neighbouring cars that even the beagles had to stand out of the way when we opened the sliding doors. Thank the powers that be for sliding doors ;)

Saturday was gorgeous, hot and sunny. By Sunday morning, the day's namesake had not made even a short appearance and everything was damp. The rain let up just long enough for the actual walk, though the sun still didn't peek out from behind the clouds. The downpour resumed during the shopping after the walk. And of course today, now that I'm back in the office, there is not a cloud in the sky.

The shopping at the event was good. I am a total sucker for dog stuff. We got lots of free dog food samples as usual. Paid too much for some gourmet, fancy dog treats that I might have considered eating myself if they didn't cost more than the equivalent item in human food. We also purchased a harness that is supposed to prevent pulling for Lizzy, but which, on later reflection I have realized will probably just result in her making an enormous face-plant the first time we see a rabbit. The final purchase was a fancy brush designed to remove dead hair and undercoat and result in less shedding around your house. My sister is mildly allergic to the hounds, so I'm hoping this will help a bit. At the very least, the rain acted like a kind of natural bath and combined with a bit of work with the brush removing all the dead fur has made them super-soft.

I've still got a load of cleaning to do before she arrives on Friday. Her bed is all set up, but the room it is in looks like a dump. All the laundry is still littered through the hallway, as well as some odd-ball items like boxes of old cell phones. My craft room is a complete disaster as is my bedroom. The main floor is tolerable, but could certainly be better. I'm trying to decide whether I should go to derby practice tonight or skip it in favour of trying to clean the house. I think I've attended all of 1 practice out of the 8 or more that we've had this month, so it's not like I'm a member in good standing at this point. Is it better to just give up on it until my sister goes home, or should I make an effort to attend one because even one day is theoretically better than none?
