Lampworking
Mar. 19th, 2005 07:27 pmSo I decided to take a day off taxes and have some fun. We spent silly amounts of money and all I have to show for it is two beads. Inga showed me the basics of bead-making, but her torch was being problematic and the shop where she buys her supplies was all out of torches, so I can't get my own (and she can't get a new one) until next weekend, over which I am booked solid due to corporate taxes being due on the 31th of this month.
'Twas much fun anyway, and I don't think I'm completely incompetent at it either. My first bead actually turned out half-decent. Then the torch started acting really wonky and the second bead is somewhat less than perfect. But considering how wrong it was going at one point, it is certainly the best I could do and totally acceptable. I will admit that Inga helped me on the second one when it started going really horribly wrong. But the first one I did all myself.
The first bead I did is black with green spots. The second is the green "melon" bead. All in all, both acceptable and both will be finding a place on my eventual necklace.
( Images of the beads behind the cut )
I also dropped into the Mazda dealership and fell in love with a nice little model of car. I've told myself I can have it as soon as I finish this auditing course I was supposed to have finished last year. Maybe that will motivate me enough to actually do it?
And finally, the beagles seem to be making good friends now. Lizzy kisses Anna as much as she kisses my husband and I. Anna has mostly stopped harassing Lizzy (the bone-fights are still happening, but at least Lizzy wins sometimes now). All in all, things have quieted down nicely. I just need to get this pesky course-work done and get through the hell that is tax season.
Here's where the beagles were when I left this morning to learn lampworking:
