The wonders of the internet

I was wandering around YouTube and marveling at the number of hits on my pick up inkle weaving video (which I can't stand listening to because the sound of my own voice being played back to me is weird). I've had 7,449 views since I posted it a year and a half ago! When it was first posted someone was quick to give it a measly 3-star rating, which I was a bit insulted at, but c'est la vie and people are entitled to their own opinions. It sat there with that rating for about a year. In the last few months I've gained a few more ratings and it's now quite respectable, but only 10 ratings out of over 7,000 hits - amazing. Of course I rarely rate videos I've viewed, so it's about right. though I have to wonder about 3-star dude. I generally only rate things when I love them (5) or when they are insulting/offensive/seriously crappy (1). I just don't get motivated by "meh" responses.

Today I found a new feature... you can look at user-data for any videos you've posted. The vast majority of my viewers are from the US, but I also get a reasonable number of views from other places all over the world. Here's a list of countries where at least one person has viewed my video in the last month:

United States
Canada
Argentina
Columbia
Brazil
Peru
Ecuador
Chile
Uruguay
South Africa
Morocco
Egypt
Algeria
India
Pakistan
Taiwan
Thailand
Japan
Philippines
Indonesia
Malaysia
Indonesia
Georgia :)
Saudi Arabia
Israel
Australia

In Europe it's easier to list the places where I've never had a hit: Belarus and Albania. The others have had at least one in the almost 2 years it's been up. I seem to be most popular in the UK, Russia, France, Italy, Germany and Sweden.

Amazing to see how far my voice has gone, and I only wish I'd been able to go too.

70% of my audience is female. Not surprising really. 40% of my audience is 45-54, 30% 55-64, 13% 35-44 and 5% is over 65. That means more than 3/4 of my audience is older than me. A bit surprising, but then it is a rather retiree-crafty thing. I wonder where they get the age stats, and would it be skewed by the fact that many computers are shared and all users of that computer would not be the same age? I suspect most computer owners are over 30, while many of the users may be their children.

The final funny observation... those pieces were strung up within a week of that video being posted... they are both still on the looms and not completed. I think the red and yellow one hasn't had a single line woven since the video. It's complicated to weave and I can't help but feel I have better things to do. The blue one is about half-way done, but I just didn't like how it was going, so it's hard to motivate myself to finish it.
