Making new friends as adults is HARD WORK. You have to really put yourself out there, and it's not always going to be a success.
Opening your house to an SCA event sounds like a really good idea, if you're comfortable doing that. I guess my other suggestion is volunteer work ... but it can be challenging finding the right kind of opportunity that leaves you feeling satisfied and happy.
