the best way for mold testing is to get a certified hygienist in to do it - for your purposes since you know the source I think this outfit would work http://www.moldbacteria.com/moldtesting_for_homeowners.html and it's not that expensive (40-50$). At the very least it gives you something to pursue with your landlord.
if it was hidden, you'd need an ambiant air sample. this place does them but the site scares me. I think if I wanted to go that route I'd find an industrial contractor to do it and it would run at a cost of several hundreds of dollars.
