On my own

Last night at about 7pm Lauren and Kristi got a late start on their drive to St Louis. Their goal was just to go a little ways so they wouldn't have to do all 14 hours in one day, but I still think that was a bit late to hit the road. Hopefully they made good time and stayed at it until midnight so today didn't suck as bad for them.

Getting up last night for feedings/diaper changes was weird. I kept worrying that her crying would wake the girls for a sec before I'd remember they were gone. The first day or so after family leaves is always a bit hard for me.

This was also the first day Jason has gone back to work for anything other than paperwork related to the leave. I have to say it's a bit rough emotionally to have both Jason and the girls gone at the same time like this. On the other hand, it's also very quiet and I don't feel guilty about slinking off to do my own thing.

In some ways it has been a very busy and productive day, in other ways I've been useless. I haven't tackled dinner yet. In fact I still have no idea what we should have. I'm toying with just heating up some of the stew I froze. I have done a load of laundry. I have done the baby's dishes (pump and bottles) a few times. That's about it for around the house stuff.

With Georgia I've had the same kind of productive in some areas, but failing in others kind of day. She's been kind of slow on the feeding today, so I'm just not getting much into her. We've only had 2 phototherapy sessions, both outside. I'm still not sure whether outside in the shade or indoors in front of a window is more effective. The window has the advantage of being bright, direct light, but the disadvantage of it being through double-paned energy star rated glass which might block out the particular band of light we need, I just don't know. So I've been trying to get some of each in every day. We also had our first bath today (just a sponge bath as the cord is still attached), she pretty much hated every second of it. I also gave her baby's first manicure during one of our baby tanning sessions. That's about the only time she's relaxed enough that I can even attempt it. I'm hoping this will cut down on the pain from clawing at the nipples during every feeding. And also I noticed a wee scratch on her face this morning, so I need to keep her from hurting herself. Here's hoping I have the nails clipped such that they will no longer be so sharp and pointy.

Anyway, off to attempt another feeding.
