Harassing the help

I get on the elevator last night to go home and two women are already standing there. One floor below mine a cleaning guy gets on. The next floor down a cleaning lady gets on. One more floor down and the cleaning man gets off. At this point one of the women gets huffy and demands of the remaining cleaning lady "why is this thing stopping at every floor!?!?!" "um 'cause people are getting on and off at every floor" I offer, stunned by her attack. Cleaning lady meanwhile is stunned silent and just praying for the door to open again so she can get off on her floor. "ooops, really, I hadn't noticed anyone getting off or on, I must be in a daze" she replies. Interesting study in how self-absorbed we can be at the end of the day.
I also almost got hit not once but TWICE by people who shouldn't have been there while I was driving to and from work. One person who thought that turning left on a red light, not running said light but from a complete stop, was a good idea ?!?!?! And another who tried to make a right turn onto a one-way street right into me. I tell ya, I'm lucky to have an intact vehicle today. And people wonder why my driving sucks when I come home. It's rubbing off on me.
Haven't updated in some time. No real news. Anna fell down a couple of steps two weeks ago and broke a nail. Which is not really a big deal except that one can't leave a bleeding, broken nail still attached or it gets infected. Got to spend an evening at the emergency vet clinic because I was not willing to tackle cutting it off myself. Also might have ruined a sweater, but I think I got the blood out. Anna was her usual drama-queen self. She went to work with Jason the next day so she wouldn't chew the bandage off while unsupervised. She spent the entire day whining because she feared anyone who petted her might accidentally touch her paw. She also refused to walk on it as long as the bandage was on. When she pulled it off she walked just fine, but with bandage she couldn't walk. Total drama. It still isn't pretty since her nail is a reddish stump, but it hasn't bled in a week or so and should heal just fine. She's also given up the drama and I am allowed to touch it now. Lizzy enjoyed the whole thing because when Anna gets cookies, she gets cookies too, and Jason felt REALLY sorry for Anna. I think they ate an entire box of Milkbones the day they went to work with him *eyeroll*. Thank god they only went with him one day or we'd have some seriously FAT dogs.
Dru was in town this weekend and allowed us to take him away from the airport for a little food and drink. It was just what I needed this weekend and lifted my spirits a lot. Our place was embarrassingly messy and I would have liked a little warning so I could have at least cleaned the kitchen and picked up all the dog-chew-toy cardboard bits all over the floor. But guests are welcome even if the place is a disaster, as long as they don't mind that is :) I also had a household meeting on the weekend, which was mostly boring. One little eye-opening issue of note that I might talk about when it's resolved, but otherwise not terribly interesting. The drinking and board games after were really fun though!
Anyway, fighting tonight and work today, should get back to that.

Date: 2005-10-27 11:48 am (UTC)sorry to hear about anna, but glad it wasn;t anything too serious.
as i get older, i find i am pausing in amazment more often. the amount of self absorbed and inflated folk out there is growing i think aometimes. i definitely agree with you that the number of stupid drivers is growing. it's mind boggling at times.
hugs and keep hanging in

Date: 2005-10-28 04:26 pm (UTC)Anna is the one with more white on her, Lizzie is the one actually looking at the camera. I'll let you take a wild gues why they're named Anna and Elizabeth.

An LJ friend's cat ambushed them last time we visited and they seem to have learned cats are to be avoided and treated with extreme caution.
